Welcome to Dolphins Class
Years 2 & 3

Welcome Back Everyone!
We have had a fabulous first few weeks back in Dolphin Class, with everyone settling straight back into learning which is fantastic. We have been so impressed with everyone's collaboration and resilience as they get used to a new school year.
A welcome back letter detailing PE days, homework, class routines, etc has been sent home but please do ask if you have any futher queries. This half term we are learning about the Creation story in our RE lessons and investigating rocks, soils and fossils in science. In maths we have started expanding our place value knowlege and working on our mental maths skills in times tables in Times Table Rock Stars and Big Maths Beat That. In English we have been working on our sentence structure and noun phrases throught the sharing the story 'Look Up' - which has got us fascinated about all things space! We also have guided reading and DEAR time every morning. What a fabulous start to what I am sure will be an outstanding year!

Science
In our first few science lessons we have been learning all about rocks, natural vs man-made, and how the 3 natural rock types are made. We used our working scientifically skills of observation, questioning and recording - using magnifying glasses and our handheld microscope to examine different rocks and sketch our findings with labels. In our last lesson we recreated how the 3 natural rock types are formed using sweets to create sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic edible 'rocks'. Super scientists all round - well done Dolphins!
RE
We have started our RE learning by learning all about the Creation Story. We recalled our learning from previous years and examined the scripture realising the repetition and poetic style in which it was written. We reflected on what the darkness was before the first day of creation and how God created the light - how this links to God bringing light to our lives everyday showing us the way to live. We have examined creation art work, studying how the artists have interpreted the scripture and represented it - we then created our own creation art work. Finally today we gave thanks for God's creation in our prayer time.
Maths
In maths we have been expanding our place value knoweldge up to 100 and 1000, identifying the value of each digit and how we can partition them into hundreds, tens and ones or more flexibly. We have also been completing number lines, estimating postions of numbers, ordering and comparing numbers too. In addition, each week we work on our mental maths skills, including our number bonds, times tables and maths fluency doubling and halving - using Times Table Rock Stars, Big Maths Beat That, chanting and singing our counting! Marvellous mathematicians all round!
October 2025
Another busy fabulous few weeks in Dolphin Class from ordering and comparing numbers up to 1000 in maths to wrting space poetry linked to our Look Up text; from exploring the meaning of 'made in the image of God' and how we should treat everyone with dignity in RE to becoming petrologists testing rocks in science and so much more...
English
Through our Look Up text for this half term over the last the children have written some fabulous Look Up poetry and first person recounts of blasting off into space through describing what it might be like using their senses. We have continued using noun phrases to describe and extending sentences with a range of conjunctions - we definitely have lots of amazing authors in our class.
RE
We have continued our learning about the Creation story through exploring how we are 'made in the image of God'. We thought about what this means, we are all unique with different skills, talents and qualities and we certainly don't all look that same, but we are all children of God. We all have the potential to be like God in our qualities loving, kind, forgiving, caring, respectful. How everyone of us, everyone in our global family, is worthy of respect and dignity. We role played different scenarios that we might come across in school and in our community where people don't show others dignity and how we can be like God in showing dignity towards others.
Science
We doned our lab coats and safety spec for our lesson as petrologists (scientists that study rocks)! Now that we knew how rocks were formed, we learnt how to discover how are unknown rock samples were made and use this to help identify the type of rock it was too. We tested the rocks durability, strength, permeability, whether it contained carbonates (and indication it contains shells/bones from milliions of years ago) and made detailed observations. Finally we were able to identify all our rock samples and how they were made!
Classroom prayer
Over the last few weeks we have been taking time to collaborate with our partners to plan and lead our weekly classroom prayer sessions. Reflecting on the Word of God for the week, then choosing ways to help gather the class together, respond to what we've heard, choose a mission for the week and how to share the Word with others. The class have been so thoughtful and full of faith in their planning and leading of these sessions.
